All About Me

Licensed Massage Therapist est 2017

Certified Birth Doula est 2022

I have been working as a massage therapist since 2017 and began focusing my career on prenatal/postpartum massage in 2021. In 2022, I added doula certification to my toolbox, and I have been dedicated to serving women ever since! I want to help every woman experience her journey in a way that honors her body, uplifts her pregnancy, ensures she receives the care all of us deserve (but so few of us get), and allows her to feel empowered and in control.

When I first dug into the science of childbirth,  I had a very rigid view--if you do all of the right things, you can have a "perfect" delivery! Then I experienced pregnancy for myself. I learned the hard way that our bodies will not be tamed. We will not all experience any part of pregnancy, childbirth, or recovery the same way, and NONE of us will get the "perfect, textbook" experience.

And that's okay!

With me, you don't need to be committed to a drug-free delivery. You don't have to deliver at home. You don't have to do anything you don't want to do--and that's kinda the point! Your birth is YOURS.

I am dedicated to supporting you no matter what you plan; whether that's a childbirth at the hospital or in the river by your home, a drug-free delivery or a planned C-section, a "by the book" experience or one that looks nothing like your mother's. I can help you prepare for the birth you want, adjust when things inevitably go astray, process it all afterwards, and enjoy your precious newborn knowing that you did a great job.

"I started looking for a doula to support me in a more natural pregnancy and birth than my previous one. Jess had ALL the tools and information I could've asked for and more. She's a great listener, and really the friend every woman needs during pregnancy!

Why a doula?

A birth doula is defined by DONA International as "a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible."

The role of a birth doula is to provide non-medicalized support to a woman and her family during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Having gone through pregnancy myself, I was astounded by how much information is out there that is never touched on by mainstream obstetric care! While a doula is no replacement for your OB-GYN, your pregnancy can be greatly enhanced by including a birth doula in your care team.

The standard medical model of care views childbirth as an event with many potential dangers. At any given point in time, your nurses are prepared to respond to complications or emergencies. It is, of course, preferrable to have a safety net when it comes to the health of you and your newborn; however, standard hospital care is simply not equipped to ensure you receive a personalized, naturally-minded, emotionally satisfying experience.
